The fingers of sunset shine through the clouds on the New South Wales mid-north coast
These images are part of a larger project documenting the transition of the Macquarie Marshes Nature Reserve from a parched desert, at the height of the millennium drought, to a soaked oasis. The photos reveal a revival of the local flora and fauna – flooded forests, colonies of breeding waterbirds, turtles, snakes and, of course, fish.
Photographer Tom Rayner’s new book takes you on a journey through the Macquarie Marshes and their revival from years of drought, to brimming wetland oasis.

Entrants from 34 countries have been recognized by the Global Arctic Awards. The competition, to capture the best scenes from the Arctic region, is in its second year.
