A crested bicycle dragon stops running just long enough to have its portrait taken.

This week’s reader photo was taken by Anna near Ceduna, South Australia.

“I was working on a mining camp just outside of Ceduna in South Australia and I came across this crested bicycle dragon (Ctenophorus cristatus) just catching some sunshine on the path and he waited for me while I went to get my camera to take his picture,” says Anna.

“At the time I didn’t know what type of lizard it was, but since finding out that he was a crested bicycle dragon, I’ve learnt that the term bicycle lizard (or dragon) is often used for lizards that run on their back legs in parts of Australia. And yes, I can confirm this, as I would find myself rolling with laughter watching these guys run!”
