What a sight! Thousands of green sea turtles flock to Raine Island each year making for a spectacular sight.

Raine Island, a coral cay situated 620 km north-west of Cairns, is the world’s largest nesting site for green sea turtles.

As many as 64,000 female green turtles migrate thousands of kilometres to lay their eggs here, making for some incredible photographs.

The photographs were captured by a drone as a part of the Raine Island Recovery Project, a partnership between the Queensland Government, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, the Wuthathi and Meriam Nation (Ugar, Mer, Erub) Traditional Owners, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and BHP.
