Now open in Sydney, Australian Geographic: Our Country is a multi-sensory, immersive experience providing a never-before-seen perspective on Australia’s breathtaking landscapes and natural wonders. You’ll be taken on a captivating and emotive journey traversing Australia’s land, sea and sky in all its majestic beauty.

Be transported from Australia’s lush rainforests to its snowy peaks, from the red deserts to the aquamarine seas. Come face-to-face with a bold saltwater croc, sit up high in the eucalypts with dozing koalas, dive deep into the ocean with the giant humpback whale and be mesmerised by thousands of flocking galahs.

The experience was created by Karina Holden, UNESCO Sydney City of Film, Filmmaker of the Year and Head of Factual at Northern Pictures. It celebrates all parts of Australia, incorporating exquisite details of nature’s textures mapped across screens and backed by the sounds of Country. It aims to connect Australians to the magnificent beauty around them and spark curiosity to know and love our land more.

Our Country, Australia, is just one of five countries that holds 70 per cent of the planet’s remaining wilderness. The mammals come from the oldest known groups alive today. It’s the continent where bird song evolved. And 80 per cent of animals here are found nowhere else in the world. We should all know and love our land more. We should all be stirred to protect it – and to fight for its preservation. Without it, we are nothing.”

Karina Holden (Producer and Editor of Our Country)

Our Country was made possible by the dedication of natural history cinematographers, sound recordists, musicians and First Nation artist. In creating the experience, we worked alongside Indigenous advisers and creators to properly reflect the First custodians of Australia’s land, sea and sky at the heart of our connection to Country.

It’s been a long road to get here,” Karina says. “One that has led me personally down the tangled path of ancient rainforests, over the salt lakes of Kata Thandi on dusk, and onto the jagged outcrops of Bass Strait. What an adventure! What a privilege.

“The work featured in the experience is thanks to 25 of the most brilliant cinematographers I’ve had the honour of working with over the two decades I’ve been making natural history films. What we see on the screens tonight, represent well over 100,000 hours in the field. You can be sure, that each individual piece of footage has a story behind it.”

Our Country was created by Australian Geographic and Northern Pictures in conjunction with Touring Partner, TEG. The event is presented by Global Presenting Partner, Tourism Australia, in partnership with Strategic Partner, Destination NSW, and Official Partner, AAT Kings.
