The internet sensation won by a huge margin.

GEORGE, THE Australian Reptile Park’s famous wombat has taken out the prestigious prize of Australia’s Most Adorable Animal, garnering almost 35 per cent of the vote.

The competition, run by Experience Oz— an online tourism company, included over 39 other Australian animals that were unfortunately, no match for the wombat who’s adorable videos with the Park’s general manager, Tim Faulkner have reached 60 million people worldwide.

George was discovered in his mother’s pouch after she had been hit by car, yet despite this rough start to life the Park’s common wombat (Vombatus ursinus) has managed to not only recover, but thrive. “Slowing him down now seems like the biggest challenge,” said one Park official.

George’s carer, Tim was unsurprised by the win.

“George has always been so adorable in the eyes of staff at The Australian Reptile Park, so it is so fantastic that the rest of the world also recognises him as ‘Australia’s Most Adorable Animal’ now as well,” he said.

“I’m so proud of the ambassador of Australian species that George has become and has stolen everyone’s heart, again!”
