Trick of the light: sacred kingfisher
10 November 2016

Photographer Greg waited by the shoreline for the perfect time to capture this sacred kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) as its feathers seem to change colour in the light.

This week’s reader photo was taken by Greg Norman in Port Lincoln, South Australia.
“The sacred kingfisher’s colours really come to life when the direct Sun is on its back and side at once,” says Greg.
“The sacred kingfisher will appear more blue than green when it’s in the shade or the Sun is coming from towards the viewer. This little kingfisher is a local on the shoreline at Billylights point in Port Lincoln, South Australia.”
