A five-minute journey across the Noosa River via the car ferry at Tewantin takes you to Noosa North Shore.

If you’re looking for outdoor adventure, Noosa North Shore ticks pretty much every box. Locals know and love it for its superb fishing, beach horseriding, surfing, camping and four-wheel-driving. It’s also the gateway to the Cooloola Great Walk through Great Sandy National Park, and to K’gari-Fraser Island.

A five-minute journey across the Noosa River by car ferry at Tewantin delivers you to more than 80km of unspoilt beaches, golden sands and forest wilderness. There are ancient dunes, sparkling blue ocean, long stretches of white sandy beaches, and a bounty of native wildlife, including eastern grey kangaroos and countless water and shorebirds to discover.

If you’d like a little direction on your first visit to this outdoor paradise, guided and tag-a-long 4WD tours are available from Noosa Heads and Noosaville.

And once you’ve had your fill of touring, push your kayak out into the ocean and drop a line in, or cast into the sea from one of the many beautiful beaches… that’s dinner sorted!

Don’t forget to contact the Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service for vehicle access and camping permits before you head over. It also has information and updates on exploring lesser-known beach and forest tracks and trails.

TEWANTIN

Tewantin is one of the area’s earliest settled towns, and sits on the Noosa River just a few minutes from Noosaville. Jump aboard the Noosa Ferry to Noosa Marina to enjoy its riverfront shops and restaurants or take a short walk to the main village.

From here head into Tewantin National Park, home to some of the Nooss’s best mountain bike trails and the Mt Tinbeerwah lookout, which has sprawling beach, forest and hinterland views.

If you’re an art lover be sure to stop in at Noosa Regional Gallery, which hosts local and touring exhibitions, and is a short riverside stroll from Tewantin village.

After all your exploring, drop into one of the town’s cafes for your fill of freshly baked goodies and tastebud-thrilling espresso, or if you’re a fish and chips aficionado, don’t miss Noosa Marina’s many eateries. You can shop here, too, for clothes and homewares, and craft and produce each Sunday from 8am–2pm at the local market.

And finally, if you’re looking for a romantic getaway, make a beeline for Makepeace, a luxury 25-acre heart-shaped island. It’s just upstream from Tewantin and will have your other half smitten!
