Ryan Campbell has been named Young Adventurer of the Year at the 2013 AG Society Gala Awards.

RYAN CAMPBELL, 19, is youngest solo aviator to circumnavigate the globe. After 10 weeks of solo flying, he landed at Illawarra Regional Airport on 7 September, marking the end of a 44,448km (24,000 nautical mile) trip.

Ryan first took off in his Cirrus SR22, Spirit of the Sapphire Coast, at the end of June. To make it around the planet in 70 days, the teen flew 32 stretches and touched down in 15 nations. In attempting this trip, Ryan’s goal was to not only break the records and win a title, but also show the power of determination, and demonstrate that, through hard work, dreams are achievable.

As well as inspiring young Australians to reconnect with aviation, Ryan raised funds and awareness for the Dare 2 Dream scholarship fund – set up in conjunction with World Youth International – which will provide 10 different scholarships to adventurous young Australians who wish to volunteer overseas.
