A curious echidna checks out a smorgasbord of ants in central Victoria.
This week’s winning Reader Photo was taken by Melissa in central Victoria.
“Whilst out photographing birds, I came across this echidna (Tachyglossidae) and his two friends. It was a rare sight to see one, let alone another two together in their natural environment,” says Melissa.
“This particular guy was not afraid to show his face as I lay on the ground in front of him. This was taken in central Victoria, in an area called The Highlands. A storm was predicted to hit in the afternoon, therefore ants were highly active preparing for its arrival. I suppose this encouraged the echidnas to come out and play!”
