This Lesueurs velvet gecko was very interested in the camera lens

This week’s reader photo was taken by Callum Meney in the Blue Mountains, NSW.

“I’m a 14-year-old who is passionate about wildlife conservation and I also love wildlife photojournalism. I lead a wildlife conservation group at my school and my dream is to help this cause through photography.

“This Lesueurs velvet gecko (Amalosia lesueurii) was in search of food when I encountered it; these geckos will typically feed on small insects at night and spend their days under small rocks. This gecko clearly took an interest in my lens as it came closer to investigate,” he said.
