Aurora australis lights up Uluru
20 March 2015

Emma Blythman was in the right place at the right time to capture this fantastic aurora australis over Uluru
Emma Blythman had been capturing time lapses of the Milky Way at Uluru when she noticed some red colour appear in the images.
Unbeknownst to her at the time, she was taking photos of the aurora australis, or southern lights.
After stitching the 30-second exposures taken at 5-second intervals, the movement of the light became clear.
A particularly strong solar storm in the 11-year sun cycle hit the Earth on Thursday night and it resulted in the auroras being visible in places that don’t usually see them.
