Following on from the huge success of the Best Job in the World contest, Toursim Queensland is at it again.

FOLLOWING ON FROM THE success of the international ‘Best Job in the World’ competition, Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTQN) have announced a new contest: Australia’s Greatest Adventurer.

The winner will receive an all-inclusive. week-long trip for two to Far North Queensland, valued at $10,000. Unlike the Best Job in the World competition, though, the new promotion is open only to Australian residents.

Opening in early 2009, the Best Job in the World campaign was lauded as an international success, with 34,000 applicants worldwide and about $100 million in tourism publicity generated. The number of applications crashed the site several times.

The competition required applicants to submit a 60 second video in order to go in the running for six-month long ‘dream’ job promoting the Great Barrier Reef and earning AU$150,000 in the process.

After making the shortlist UK charity fundraiser Ben Southall was selected as the overall winner, bagging a half-year in a luxury villa on Hamilton Island, snorkelling, swimming and exploring the islands of the Great Barrier.

In this latest campaign, applicants need only submit a 250-word piece that describes their “ultimate tropical north Queensland adventure.”

TTNQ are looking for the best entry based on selection criteria such as the creativity of the entry, the diversity of experience and a certain degree of familiarity with the region. No adventure experience is necessary, but adventurous spirits are mandatory.

A group of 10 adventure ambassadors – including Alex Petrou, who’s walked from Brisbane to Cairns, and Karl Gurnick, who’s kayaked from Australia to PNG – will decide on the winner.

The competition will close May 31. The winner will be announced on June 15.
