This bright blue male fairy-wren is one of the more colourful of Australian bird species

Says Mark, an ecologist based in Brisbane:

“After spending some time enjoying the company of feeding Australian ringnecks at Dryandra Woodland (WA), I was headed back to the vehicle when I notice a group of foraging splendid fairywrens (Malurus splendens). Anticipating their direction of travel, I located myself near some bushes and hoped they might venture close. After a little squeaking to help encourage the birds over, this well coloured male popped up to say hello,” he says.

Mark Sanders is a “naturally obsessed” ecologist from Brisbane. He regularly travels throughout Australia, enjoying the outdoors and its many delights.
