Humpback whales were breaching all around us during this afternoon late
in the 2021 whale season. It was an incredible experience, but the landscape photographer in me couldn’t resist taking a few moments to capture the stunning coastal scenery of the Tasman Peninsula.

In the early morning, I flew in a helicopter with a door removed, 500m above the Tasman Valley, in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. From the sky, I saw that the Tasman River originated from the far away snowy mountains and formed an impressive shining trace down the valley under the morning sunlight.

A colossal bolt of lightning launches from the anvil of an ocean storm and punches through the updraft, eventually splitting into seven separate points of impact. Captured at a distance of 100km, the base of this storm is obscured by the curvature of the Earth.

Along the coast of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, a set of waves churn the water into a chaos of sand and bubbles. I wait calmly on the surface for clarity. Timing my breath with the waves, I descend into position and capture the intense moment the waves break the surface again.

The Lost World is located on the north-eastern slopes of kunanyi /Mount Wellington. At 1100m above sea level, the area is made up of 180-million-year-old dolerite formations. This image was captured after a prolonged period of whiteout conditions.

A stormy afternoon at the start of autumn in WA’s wheatbelt watching dark clouds moving across the land, dropping rain as they went. As the wind picked up, clouds of dust were created ahead of the rain and hail that followed.

Winter swell slams the 100m-high cliffs along the wild coast at Whalers Way, highlighting its remarkable beauty. Unbelievably, Whalers Way risks industrialisation as corporates try to turn this wilderness area into a rocket launch facility. More now than ever, we should be protecting our wild places, not risking them.

I wanted to capture the mood of what was likely to be a rainy day, rather than a colourful sunrise. A high tide afforded the opportunity to focus on water embracing the rocks in the foreshore. Camel Rock in the background is an imposing presence.
