The cutest chick you’ve ever seen.

This is one very special lyrebird chick. This adorably fluffy young bird is the hatchling of Gertrude the lyrebird, an important study subject of Vicky Austin from The Lyrebird Lab.

Vicky has monitored Gertrude’s nest for over five years. During Australia’s Black Summer, she feared that the nest had been completely wiped out. Much to her surprise, not only did Gertrude’s nest survive, but she also had this little hatchling inside.

Vicky’s story is one of many featured in a new documentary Wild Australia: After The Fires premiering on ABC TV Tuesday 1 December at 8:30 PM.
