Mates in Mongolia. “We stayed in gers [portable circular huts] belonging to the family of these brothers,” says James Kell. “Their parents proudly showed us medals from the Naadam races, a 20 km cross-country horse race.” James and his cousins, Peter Carr-Boyd and Gus Kell, crossed Mongolia using only non-motorised means, including camels, horses and kite skis during the Northern Hemisphere winter of 2009/2010. Starting at Altanbulag on the Russian border, they made their way across most of Mongolia to Choir, in the Gobi desert.
