A Belgian photographer has captured a dramatic timelapse of a storm rolling in over Sydney Harbour in January this year.

THURSDAY, 14 JANUARY was a 41-degree day in Sydney and the forecast was for severe storms – so Sydney-based Belgian timelapse photographer and YouTube ‘vlogger‘ Matthew Vandeputte packed his camera and headed for the harbourside at Milsons Point to shoot the clouds rolling in across the city skyline.

The drama of the weather was compounded by a police operation underway at the Sydney Opera House and Manly that day, with ferries cancelled and helicopters buzzing overhead, as Matthew describes in his video blog on the making of the video, below.

“It’s looking pretty apocalyptic,” he says of the “dream storm” on its way.

Matthew finally shared the high-definition timelapse with his YouTube followers this afternoon. Footage was shot with a Canon 5DSR camera in up to 8K resolution.
