YOU MIGHT THINK MORE about chocolate these days when the topic of bilbies comes up, but there’s a sad story behind the animal. The bilby (Macrotis lagotis) is seriously endangered and needs help to survive; it is the only member of the bandicoot family to make a living in the outback. Lately, some great programs have been successful at boosting bilby numbers.
