A surprise visitor and an early morning train journey.

This week’s AG Reader Photo was taken by Peter Street in Hazelbrook, New South Wales.

“This mustard-bellied snake was a surprise visitor to Rachel’s home in Hazelbrook, in the Blue Mountains,” says Peter.

Eager to see a new to me species, I took several hours of trains early in the morning for the opportunity, before they left for work that morning.”

The mustard-bellied snake (Drysdalia rhodogaster) is endemic to New South Wales and can be found along the coast and in the southern ranges from the Newnes Plateau in the north to Merimbula in the south. It is quite common in leaf litter or under logs but can be found on rocks and sand in spring.
