The tawny coster was known about in South East Asia, but its bright form was only recently spotted in northern Australia.
This week’s reader photo was taken by Stephen in Darwin, January 2013.
“The tawny coster (Acreaea terpsicore) is a recent addition to Australia’s butterfly fauna. It was discovered in Darwin in early 2011 and is spreading south and west. This specimen was photographed in Darwin and is a newly emerged male.”
