We’re so excited!

FOR THE FIRST time in its 32-year history, Australian Geographic magazine has been published in braille.

With the help of Braille House, a Queensland-based organisation that prints books and creates audio for the blind, Issue 148 of the magazine will now be available in their library, which has over 100 active members.

The library holds a record 14,649 volumes of braille in their library.

Library member Belinda Bain was excited by the collaboration between AG and Braille House.

“I think that the Australian Geographic is a great magazine and well worth reading,” she said “I’m vision impaired and read braille as well as audio materials. It means the world to me to have magazines and other books in braille.”

Steve Sparrow, a local radio presenter for 4RPH– a radio station for the blind– who reads the braille editions of magazines and books on air, has read the new issue to his listeners.

Issue 148, the latest issue of the magazine, includes stories on why birds collide with windows, the citizen science project saving our frogs, the lost continent Zealandia, and much more.
