Australian Geographic is proud to announce that Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend the annual Australian Geographic Society Gala Awards Dinner on 26 October at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney.

The Australian Geographic Society awards are Australia’s longest-running and most prestigious awards for adventure and conservation. Past winners have included Valerie Taylor AM, Bindi Irwin, Tim Flannery, Ian Kiernan AO and Dick Smith AC. In recent times honorary awards have been presented to Buzz Aldrin and Dr David Suzuki.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Sydney for the Invictus Games and this year’s AG awards include a number of recipients who have overcome significant physical challenges to achieve amazing feats of endurance.

The Duke is well known and respected as an explorer and adventurer, and as such exemplifies many of the values and objectives of the Australian Geographic Society. At this year’s event we also plan to highlight the Duke’s other achievements, particularly in conservation and as an advocate for youth. The royal couple will be involved in the presentation of the youth awards for conservation and adventure.

The winners of the 2018 Australian Geographic Society awards will be announced on Friday 26 October at 7am.

Please note the gala awards dinner is now sold out.
