VIDEO: Drowning wombat rescued in Tasmania

A pair of fishermen have rescued a wombat drowning in a lake in central Tasmania.
A PAIR OF fishermen have rescued a wombat found drowning about 250m off shore in Woods Lake in Central Tasmania earlier this month.
The two men, Craig Wilson and Bob Wilton, were fishing for trout when they spotted the creature which they initially thought was a platypus before realising it was a wombat struggling to stay afloat.
“If we weren’t there in the lake, he would have drowned for sure,” Craig told The Advocate, where the story was originally reported. “The way the wind was blowing, he would not have been able to make it back to shore,” he said.
Reports suggest the wombat did not appear injured and that he was safely returned to the wild.
