This week’s reader photo of a pair of shy albatross was captured by Damien Readett about 60km out from Sandy Cape on Tasmania’s western coast.

The Shy albatross (Thalassarche cauta) is a medium sized albatross, and is unique to Tasmania, breeding exclusively on three offshore islands: Albatross Island in the north and Pedra Branca and the Mewstone in the south.  They are listed as a vulnerable species with an estimated total population of around 15,000 breeding pairs.
