A birds eye view of the Caterpillar dreaming

The latest Australian Geographic Flickr group photo of the week.

Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Anna-Riita, for her image West Macdonnell Ranges.

“This image was taken from a trip to the Northern Territory with my daughters. We

took a helicopter flight from Glen Helen Gorge at 10am, as the shadows wouldn’t be too long and the pilot was obliging and took off the doors to allow for clear photographs,” says Anna-Riitta.

“The amazing ridges are part of the Caterpillar dreaming of the Arrernte people. Cutting through the range is the start of the Finke River which travels for about 600km to South Australia. To the right is Ormiston Pond with Mount Sonder in the prominent in the background centre. It was an amazing flight and the landscape was completely different from what you see at ground level.”
