Sacred kingfishers forage mainly on the land, feeding on crustaceans, reptiles, insects and their larvae and, occasionally, fish.

This week’s reader photo was taken by Greg Norman from Port Lincoln, SA.

“I followed this little sacred kingfisher around for about an hour trying to get closer and closer before he’d fly away. Only a few times did he perch in a good position when the sun was out for long enough to take a shot or two. On this occasion he had just caught the little crab. Sometimes it all comes together but more often than not it’s a miss. I never tire of trying as long as the chance exists,” Greg said.
