On a short drive from the CBD, D’Aguilar National Park is easily accessible and is a lovely weekend escape.

D’Aguilar National Park lies just 20 minutes from the Brisbane CBD but is world’s away from the city hustle and bustle. The park is divided into two distinct sections – South D’Aguilar section (formerly Brisbane Forest Park) and Mount Mee section (formerly Mount Mee State Forest and Forest Reserve) – each with their own drawcards. The park features expansive eucalypt forests, secluded pockets of sub-tropical rainforest, remote gorges and views to Moreton Bay and Glasshouse Mountains.

Both sections of the park offer a range of walking tracks from beginner through to tracks better suited to more experienced walkers. They vary in length and time required from short 45-minute strolls through to longer treks, such as the 16km Augies loop in the park’s southern section, which can be walked in a day, or you can camp overnight and make it a two-day adventure.

For those after a faster-paced visit, check out the mountain bike trails. Mountain biking is permitted on forest trails in the park’s southern section unless otherwise signposted. Pick up a topographic map from the visitors centre before heading out – there are hundreds of kilometres of trails. One of the more popular is the 22km (one-way) South Boundary Road, which follows a long, forested ridge to the rainforest township of Mount Nebo. The trail has several climbs (heading up the mountain and on the return run) and is enjoyed more in the cooler months. This is a shared forest trail; horse riders and walkers also use this area.
