“My father was president of the Protection League which had lobbied for the land to be saved from development when it was to be put up for auction on 5 February 1950. The government resumed the land on 20 February 1950 and had it added to the National Park in 1953 – later to become the Royal National Park in 1954 when the Queen visited,” says Helen Voysey.
