Painting by Dieter Irving.
New artworks depicting scenes of costal central Queensland, captured 200 years earlier by William Westall, are on display in the Emerald and Gladstone art galleries this year.
Sponsored by the Australian Geographic Society, the artists revisited and recaptured many beautiful landscapes throughout World Heritage areas, from Gladstone through Corio and Shaolwater Bays to the Percy Isles.
Led by artist Bill Gannon on the Coral Adventure, the team of artists travelled along the same route first taken by Mathew Flinders aboard the HMS Investigator.
Under the instruction of Flinders, the young William Westall, a trainee topographical artist, recorded landscapes from off the coast of Queensland, which were later used as navigational aids to mariners.
The exhibition will show pencil sketches, pen and ink drawings, paintings, photographs and film along with some prints of William's original works.
