WHAT: Invertebrates
WHERE: Everywhere!
The United Nations has designated 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity to help celebrate all life on Earth. With this in mind, the Society is holding a Biodiversity Appeal to raise money to assist projects that are studying the world’s forgotten life forms, the hidden creatures that are often overlooked in mainstream conservation causes – the invertebrates.
Over 65% of the described species in Australia are invertebrates and it is thought that invertebrates may make up between 95-99% of animals on the planet. Adapting to every environment on the globe these animals make up the silent majority and have only one thing in common – they’re spineless!
Funds from the Biodiversity Appeal will go to research currently being undertaken by the Northern Territory Museum and Art Gallery, the Victorian National Parks Association and the BookEnd Trust Program.
