AG Society Sponsorships

Each calendar year the Australian Geographic Society donates generously to maintain its programme of sponsorship of Australian adventurers, scientific and environmental research, and community projects. Over the years it has spent much time and effort supporting Australian endeavour in all these fields.

Australian scientists, community organisations and individuals developing projects in Australia and abroad are welcome to apply for Society sponsorship.

Applications are taken throughout the year for the quarterly sponsorship rounds.

Round 1- January-March 2012
Closing date: December 31st

Round 2- April-June 2012
Closing date: March 31st

Round 3- July-September 2012
Closing date: June 31st

Round 4- October-December 2012
Closing date: September 30th

Nancy Bird Walton Sponsorship
Applications for the NBW sponsorship open on October 16 each year, to commemorate nancy's birthday.
Applications close on January 31.
All Australian female adventurers are eligible to apply for this grant.

Northface Adventure Grant Applications are open each year for this grant.

BAYERboost Environmental Scholarship
The scholarship aims to give year 11, 12 and undergraduate students experience in environmental research or restoration in their summer break. Three scholarships are offered as part of the program.

2012 Sponsorships

In 2012 there are four types of sponsorships available through the Australian Geographic Society:

Seed Grants (up to $3000)

Project Sponsorships ($5,000 to $15,000) - all applicants for project sponsorship should contact the Society Adminsitrator before submitting an application.

Nancy Bird Walton Sponsorship for Female Adventurers (one grant of $5,000); now closed.

Northface Adventure grant; now closed – see the Northface website

In 2012 the total amount of funds allocated in the each funding round for Seed Grants will be a maximum of $15,000 and for Project Sponsorship a maximum of $15,000. The total amount of funds distributed may be less than these amounts. The number of projects sponsored in each category is dependent upon the amount sought by each applicant.
