Fringing reef surround East Hope Island in the northern section of the Great Barrier reef

The latest Australian Geographic Flickr group photo of the week.

Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Dean, for his image ‘East Hope Island’

“Flying home in a R44 after a few days’ work on a remote Cape York bush camp in late August, we came across several whales making their way south off the coast of Cooktown. As we observed their migration through many offshore reefs they led us past the National Park island named East Hope Island and it’s very impressive surrounding reef system. Situated in the northern section of the great Barrier reef and 8km offshore there are two islands to the small group East and West.”
