When you don’t have eyelids a tongue will do!
This incredible capture of an eastern spiny-tailed gecko (Strophurus williamsi) enjoying an eyeball bath – our latest AG Reader Photo of the Week – was taken by Harrison Warne in Queensland.
“Most gecko species don’t have eyelids so they need to use their tongue to clean their eyes, just like this one,” explained Harrison.
