A whale shark, mouth wide, swims toward the surface to feed.

Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Norbert, for his image ‘Whale sharks in Oslob’.

“I am a hobby photographer, born and raised in Germany, but I call Australia (Brisbane) home since 1991. I am a keen scuba diver and always wanted to take my DSLR underwater – and I finally managed to purchase a housing and this trip to the Philippines was my first chance to use it,” says Norbert.

“My wife Merrin and I have just been on a dive holiday in the beautiful Philippines, and one of the highlights of our trip was swimming with the whale sharks at Oslob. There are many different opinions on the practice of swimming with them. I can see both sides of the argument, it is quite a circus in Oslob (though we were there on a quiet day) and some people don’t follow the rules. I’d like to think people will be more protective of them after the incredible experience of swimming with these magnificent creatures.

“I have lots to learn about underwater photography but so far I am pretty happy with the results.”

The photo was taken with my Nikon D 800 and Sigma 15 mm lens in an Aquatica housing.
