The latest Australian Geographic Flickr group photo of the week.

Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Ian Woodforth or New South Wales for his image of a Gentoo penguin coming ashore.

This week’s Flickr pic was taken by Ian at Wirik Bay, South Georgia.

“This picture of a Gentoo penguin was taken during a voyage from the Falkland Islands to South Georgia in November 2014, sailing on Pelagic Australis,” says Ian.

“We had landed in Wirik Bay and walked up one of the headlands, and I took this photo of a Gentoo coming ashore to return to its nest, while waiting for the zodiac to collect us. The rest of the group was braving the territorial fur seals and exploring the beach. The photo was taken on a Nikon D600 with a Nikon 28-300mm lens, which was very useful on this trip as it avoided changing lenses in hostile conditions.”

Taken at 300mm, 1/800 sec, f5.6, ISO500.
