Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Michael Chong, for his image ‘Dragon eyes’.

Says Michael, on his close encounter:

“I started photography as a hobby when I was a teenager, joining the high school photography club with my Pentax film camera. I’ve only started getting back into photography in the past 2two to three years after getting my first digital SLR. I dabbled with film making in my 20s as well and have done some home musical videos with my kids, and also videos for a disability charity.

I’ve been taking my photography hobby more seriously after getting my first FX camera – the Nikon D750. I enjoy photography as an avenue to express my creative side and might get back into film if I can find the time!

It was fortuitous that this juvenile water dragon (Physignathus lesueurii – at least I think it is after some googling) came scurrying into my backyard that weekend as I’d just purchased the Tamron 90mm f2.8 VC macro lens the day before.

It was climbing up our screen door when I spotted it. I managed to take over 50 photos, and it just stayed there, completely calm, even with a lens staring at it less than 30cm away. I wanted to focus mainly on the eyes as I could see that it had an amazing colour and texture to it.”
