Trikes on the Roof of the World

Adventurers plan to cycle the 'Friendship Highway' on three wheels.

TWO TASMANIANS ARE OUT to promote the ability in disability by biking across the 1100km 'Friendship Highway' from Lhasa, Tibet to Kathmandu, Nepal.

Carol Hurst and Paul Pritchard will attempt a 36-day trek across this epic highway by riding tricycles. They both have different disabilities that leave them unable to ride standard two-wheelers, but that certainly doesn't stop them from getting around on an extra wheel.

"We hope to inspire other people who do not have the good fortune of a healthy body to keep striving to be the best they can," says Paul. "This is a powerful, uplifting message not just for the disabled, but for all people."

Film makers Sharyn Jones and Chris Jones will be recording the journey on film. The DVD, Trikes on the Roof of the World, will be used as an educational tool to promote positive attitudes and role models for people with disabilities.

The Friendship Highway crosses eight high passes, three above 5300m. During the latter part of the ride, the team will face a 4600m road descent, the longest on Earth. 

Carol and Paul plan to start their journey in September.
