Head outside in any conditions in these weather-proof pants

Weather shouldn’t change your plans, just what you’re wearing, and if you’re wearing the right clothing your outdoor experience can be just as enjoyable in spite of the weather.

One of the most useful pieces of outdoor clothing that I pack on my travels is a rain shell. This single piece of clothing can be one of the most protective layers you will bring with you into the great outdoors.

My pick – Patagonia Torrentshell pants.

These outer shells do exactly what pared-down rainwear should: keep you dry through spring showers or booming thunderstorms. They’re lightweight, waterproof and breathable, and the simple pull-on style and elasticised waistband make them easy to pull over the top of other clothing when the clouds roll in – just make sure you get a larger size to pull over.

The zippered legs have adjustable hook-and-loop cuffs allowing for pants to be rolled to a shorter length, and they also come with a DWR-treated zipper and storm flap on the lower leg to keep out icy spray and rain.

These pants are so helpful they even fold up on themselves, into the left-hand warmer pocket! Being so lightweight also means they can be stashed in very small places, in even the smallest of bags, making them extra handy to take on the road… just in case.
