Local Cronulla woman wrestles shark out of rock pool
The ultimate Australian story.
CRONULLA LOCAL, Melissa Hatheier has been filmed wrestling a metre-long shark out of Oak Park Rock Pool and releasing into the open ocean.
The rescue, posted on facebook by Cronulla Real Estate— Melissa's employer, captured the entire ordeal.
Melissa can be seen nonchalantly swimming towards the shark, eventually scooping it up into her arms and setting it free.
Appearing on the Today Show this morning, Melissa explained that she needed to remove the shark because her elderly mother often enjoys morning swims in the pool.
“My gorgeous mum who swims every morning down here in the rock pool rang and said this there is a shark in the pool,” she said.
“And I said, OK don’t worry, I will come down. So I came down, there was a bit of a crew down here, and had a look and he was a little Port Jackson and was doing laps of the pool and I said, you know I’m going to go in and check him out.
“He was getting stressed because he was bumping into the rocks and I was thinking I just need to put him back where he is meant to be.”
