The winners of the 2016 International Landscape Photographer of the Year have been announced, with a number of Aussie photographers taking out top spots.

THE 2016 WINNERS of the International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition have been announced, with the stunning winning shots ranging from dramatic aerial desert landscapes to Arctic snowscapes and slow-exposure rainforest waterfalls.

The panel of judges, chaired by renowned Australian photographer Peter Eastway, selected 101 winning images from 2394 entries from around the world to be published in a hard-cover book.

Alex Noriega from the USA was named International Landscape Photographer of the Year for his folio submission, including the below aerial photo, called ‘Mother Brain’, taken over the Colorado Plateau, in southwestern USA.

“Landscape photographers are passionate about their art. For some, it’s the time spent in the landscape, waiting for the perfect light or an amazing sky. For others, it’s what they can conjure from their imagination without the restrictions of the natural world,” said judge chairman Peter Eastway.

Second place went to Australian photographer Kath Salier for her folio of images, including the top image taken in Mount Field National Park, Tasmania, and the image below taken in Iceland.
