AG Blog

The AG Blog gives you an inside look at what's happening at Australian Geographic, including the latest reports from current expeditions, and updates from the AG team.

AG online: our world at your fingertips

Hello, and welcome to Australian Geographic’s new website – the shiny shopfront of a mountain of thought and effort. We’re thrilled that the spreading branches of AG have finally found a common online home: here you’ll get up-to-date reports from the journal and the opportunity to rate, and comment on, stories; news from the Australian Geographic Society about sponsored adventurers and researchers, expedition opportunities and special member offers; and the latest trick or chic products on offer at Australian Geographic Stores.

Journal staff are abuzz at the chance to add to our stories and photographs those extra, digital dimensions that contemporary readers expect. Now, our writers and photographers can file assignment reports from the field – providing a modern-day insight into the very old-fashioned way a geographic journal goes about gathering information – and we’ll be able to create galleries of the assignment photographs that don’t make it onto the journal’s pages. Future plans include an improved archive, video reports, expanded travel dossiers and much more.

Here in the office we’re hard at work on issue 96 and are particularly excited about the new evolution poster that subscribers will receive. The poster – featuring illustrations by renowned artist Peter Schouten and text from leading Australian palaeontologists – will reveal the remarkable evolutionary journey of a favourite Australian. It’s our way of marking the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s Origin of the Species.

Keep visiting – we’re looking forward to hearing from you.
