Pickerings Hut, Victoria, was built in 1953 for recreational and fishing purposes. Deciduous exotic trees shade the grounds surrounding Pickerings, part of its last allure to fly-fishers and solitude seekers.

Thank you. This article brought back great memories of visiting Grey Mare Hut in the 1980's and early 1990's, most memorably to view Halley's Comet at Easter in 1986. Each Easter my late husband Peter Comans used to stock the woodpile for skiers for the coming winter. On behalf of the SMHA he would also attend to maintenance of the hut. Its dunny was a wooden board with a hole in it suspended over an abandoned mine shaft so that had to be realigned occasionally as well. Report

I alwaysunderstood that Vickery's Hut was built by Jack Vickery but was used extensively by his two elder sons Ross and Noel. Whatever, besides being shelter it was used by the extended family through the 1940's and my mother ( Doril Vickery) described may happy stays in the hut and nearby mweadow. It should be preserved as part of our Nation's history Report

Thanks for the lovely shots of the lovely subjects. I have stayed in or outside many, Bolton's Hut, Valentine's with its rats, Schlink's Hilton, Grey Mares, Mawsons, and beautiful but tragically no more Constance's Hut. Thanks for the memories. Report

As a result of an intense ibterest in the cattlemen of the high country, I'm investigating the family of Crisp, in the high country, from around 1845 onwards.
This is my wife's grandmothers maiden name. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
