Australian Geographic internship

HAVE YOU ALWAYS DREAMED of reporting at a major national magazine or newspaper? Then this may be the opportunity that launches your career.

As an editorial print/online intern you’ll work alongside the AG team in our offices in Sydney’s CBD. Your tasks will include reporting and writing regular stories for our website, assisting the online editor, proofing, fact checking and helping out with general office duties as required.

Preferred candidates will either have a university degree, or will be in the process of completing one, and will have an interest in the kind of topics Australian Geographic covers. Some journalism or communication experience – on a student newspaper for example – is preferred. Applicants with degrees in topics such as journalism, geography, history, environment, science are preferred.

Internships are unpaid, but will result in published clips and a reference. We prefer to take candidates for three consecutive days a week over several months or full time for about four weeks. We may be able to accommodate other schedules on a case by case basis.

To apply please send a CV, writing samples and a cover letter addressing these criteria, below, to editorial@ausgeo.com.au. Please indicate when you will be available.

Criteria to address:

* The applicant has relevant journalistic experience (either a previous job, internship or student paper, etc)

* The applicant has studied or is studying a topic relevant to Australian Geographic (science, history, environment, geography, culture)

* The applicant has some web experience (blogs, HTML, social media, etc)

* What are the applicant's future ambitions/aspirations?
